Patrice Rushen And Billy Childs Together… Say No More!

The Carr Center Presents… from the mind of our Artistic Director and 2021 NEA Jazz Master Terri Lyne Carrington, the launch of our exciting new virtual performance series, “dUOS & dUETS”, pairing up industry giants in ways you have never seen them paired before.

This virtual series promises to be a truly extraordinary experience and this weekend we plan to set it off like a meteor shower, with a concert featuring Patrice Rushen and Billy Childs, two of jazz piano’s brightest stars, performing together on Saturday, November 14th at 7:30 pm EST.

A classically trained pianist, Rushen has spent a lifetime honing the skills that make her one of the music industry’s most versatile and sought after artists. Her early career made a transition from acoustic jazz to the top of the R&B charts, but she never completely left her jazz roots. Today she is considered one of the world’s top jazz pianists who has performed with and produced for such esteemed artists as Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Prince, Dianne Reeves, Lionel Hampton, Carlos Santana and others.

Jazz pianist/composer Billy Childs remains one of the most diversely prolific and acclaimed artists working in music today. Childs’ canon of original compositions and arrangements has garnered him the 2013 Doris Duke Performing Artist Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship (2009), 16 Grammy nominations, and five Grammy awards, most recently for Best Jazz Instrumental Album (Rebirth)

Carr Center President, Oliver Ragsdale Jr. had this to say about the new series and the concert:

“Having Terri Lyne Carrington as our Artistic Director is opening even more doors for us at the Carr Center. She has fashioned this series of intimate performances in the time of COVID to explore brand new sounds, mixing genres and artists in brand new ways. Our “dUOS & dUETS” concert series will bring together some of the most accomplished and brilliant artists working in the industry today. We couldn’t be more excited!”

The Patrice Rushen/Billy Childs concert is being co-presented by Just Jazz and Jazz Corner.com
