Dr. Stephanie Hawkes
Assistant Director for the Office of Multicultural Student Engagement

Dr. Stephanie Hawkes serves as the Assistant Director for the Office of Multicultural Student Engagement at Wayne State University (WSU). In her role, she develops campus-wide programming and educational opportunities centered on multiculturalism, with an emphasis on addressing issues of equity and inclusion.
Dr. Hawkes grew up on the East side of Detroit and is a proud product of the Detroit Public School system. As a first-generation college student, her interests lie in academic support, specifically around initiatives that assist marginalized and underserved students be successful in college. Outside of her work with OMSE, she serves as a mentor for women of color, teaches a First Year Seminar Course, co-chair’s the WSU Inclusive Excellence Committee, and serves on two WSU Social Justice Action Teams tasked with examining internal policies, procedures and practices to identify bias throughout the WSU campus.
In addition to her work at WSU, Dr. Hawkes stays active in professional organizations by presenting at local and national conferences and has served in leadership roles in local organizations, including the Michigan Tutorial Association, ACPA-Michigan, and NACADA Region 5.
