“Grandparents Day is a unique opportunity for grandparents and parents to bring their children to a fulfilling event that allows them to learn and play together in a safe and fun environment,” said Lisa Whitmore Davis, AARP Michigan Associate State Director for Multi-cultural Outreach.
With a focus on family, the event is expected to offer family oriented programing and activities for this of all ages.
“The Wright Museum is delighted to partner with AARP and our Women’s Committee Auxiliary to offer a daylong variety of enjoyable, family-based activities, celebrating the special roles that grandparents play in the lives of not only their kin, but in our communities as well,”said LaNesha DeBardelaben, Vice President of Assessment & Community Engagement at Wright Museum.
Grandparents and the elderly are considered pillars of the black community, like so many other ethnicities. the Wright Museum along with AARP hope to promote this belief even more with the introduction of this celebration.
“Within the African American cultural tradition, grandparents have long symbolized the compassionate wisdom that inspires the young to live better lives. We are excited about this year’s Grandparents Day at the Wright Museum. The theme, ‘Grandparents are Golden’, nicely fits within the museum’s 50th anniversary yearlong celebration.”
