Providing HOPE: Thousands focus on cleaning 100 blocks over three days

Focus HopeFocus: HOPE, a Detroit non-profit organization, has maintained a commitment to the city of Detroit and its neighborhoods that has spanned over 45 years.

The start of today’s three-day strategic neighborhood cleanup, The Hope Village Initiative: KEEP IT 100!, involves thousands of youth and parent leaders from Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, community members and other revitalization organizations.

This year’s sponsors include: Wayne County Department of Public Affairs, Meijer, Marathon, Bordine’s, ELCA Youth Gathering, and Students Shoulder to Shoulder.

The target location is known as HOPE Village neighborhood, located north of Oakman Boulevard and runs to Dexter Avenue along the Lodge Expressway.

The three-day project activities will include helping residents clean up vacant lots, board up abandoned homes, and introduce new rain gardens, install public art displays, and plant trees in the neighborhood.
