Denzel Washington would love to take on the legendary part of James Bond and become the first black actor to occupy the beloved screen persona.
Washington was very enthusiastic when a fan asked during a Reddit AMA would he like to play the part of 007.
“The next James Bond? They better hurry up! Yes I would! Who’s doing James Bond now … Daniel Craig! Did they shoot another one?” Washington responded.
He added: “everybody should tweet Denzel is James Bond! Send it to the studio! We start the Denzel is Bond campaign today! James Washington. Denzel Bond!”
But becoming the first black bond isn’t the only part or franchise Washington would love to take on. There are other hopeful projects the acclaimed, popular two-time Academy-Award winner would love to continue. First and foremost, he needs to host “Saturday Night Live.”
“That’s a good question! I need to do that! It’s not too late! They’re still on right? They’ve been on like 30 years, right? Call NBC and tell them Denzel needs to host!”
And speaking of comedy, Washington is taken too seriously. He’s interested in doing more comedy. He wishes Will Smith would get moving on their remake of “Uptown Saturday Night.”
“That’s something I’m always on the lookout for. Yes, absolutely want to do more. I actually have a script for a remake of ‘Uptown Saturday Night’ that Will Smith wants to put together, that’s been written and that we’re talking about. You can hit Will up and ask him what he’s waiting for.”
But for now, he’s starring in the new film “The Equalizer” — coming out in theaters on Friday, Sept. 26, 2014. Read more from Washington’s interview The Wrap.
