The Michigan Opera Theater proudly presented the much acclaimed production of BravoBravo at the Detroit Opera House on June 6. For the past 15 years, young professionals of the Michigan Opera Theater’s Volunteer Association have featured the high energy project as a major fundraising event to ensure the continued success of the organization. BravoBravo attracts approximately 2,000 patrons, boasting selling out performances every year. Last year, the organization was able to raise $285,000 for the daily operating cost of the Detroit Opera House. Donations to the organization help keep educational outreach programs available to the community. Classes, artist camps and workshops have benefited the arts and culture in Detroit and surrounding areas for over 30 years. Programs include opera education, dance education and in-school tours.
The Michigan Opera Theater’s Volunteer Association chose three of the most involved young professionals to co-chair the event. The co-chairs choose a theme for BravoBravo, this year’s theme was “A Cultural Experience”. Megan Davis, one of the co- chairs of the event stated, “People get to see what a gem the opera house is.” BravoBravo transformed the Detroit Opera House into a cultural melting pot which was stirred right here in the heart of Detroit.
The event showcased restaurants diverse as Steve’s Soul Food to Igniti Sushi Bar and Vicente’s Cuban Cuisine to Zumba Mexican Grille. Musical performances included DJ Stacey “hotwaxx” Hale featuring Nyumba Muziki, La Dolce Vita and Sean Blackman’s In Transit. Sean Blackman performed multicultural world mixed music. Blackman stated the audience is, “getting a multicultural experience.” Blackman’s music “pulls cultures out of their different pockets and brings them together.” Those in attendance were able to enjoy the festive atmosphere while networking with some of Detroit’s most talented and ambitious young professionals. BravoBravo was sponsored by over 60 companies including, Chrysler Group LLC, DTE Energy, The Westin Book Cadillac Detroit (www.bookcadillacwestin.com) and MGM Grand Detroit (www.mgmgranddetroit.com). Since the launch of BravoBravo the event has raised over 1 million dollars. The Detroit Opera retains art in Detroit, captivating adults and enriching our youth.
